Case manager tasks of work items one way or another got into the Conductor (exception) queue. How can we get case manager tasks that are failed back to the previously failed step in the running workflow?
As a PE administrator, you can use the ibm process administrator to query the affected work items in the Conductor queue via Edit mode.

Otherwise, If case was failed at mid of any step or node than use this procedure to restart task/ case again in last previous state where it was failed: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/286021
Once done, you will see case is again started / restarted at that particular step or node as mentioned in screenshot below:
This process applies to ICM 5.1.x / 5.2.x / 5.3.x. These both tech notes are really useful to fulfill your failed tasks/cases requirement.
